Top 5 Day Trips Within 100 Kilometres of Island Club
3 min read
Island Club is a relaxing and tranquil location, but it’s also the perfect base to go on day trips! There are many calming and beautiful expeditions within 100 kilometres of our hotel, and we would love to share some with you.
1. Beaches
Cape Town has some of the most amazing beaches in the world and you don’t have to travel far from Island Club to visit them. If you’d like a different location to work on your tan than our fabulous garden and pool, Blouberg and Dolphin Beach are only 10 kilometres away. This area offers a long stretch of sandy beach that overlooks Table Mountain and the Mother City. After your day of relaxing and swimming in the ocean, head to Blowfish Restaurant for sushi and a cocktail! Other beaches that are worth visiting include Clifton (19 km), Melkbos (22 km), and Kommetjie (47 km).
2. Yzerfontein (88 km)
Yzerfontein has a 25-kilometre beach, perfect for swimming and tanning. Look out for the tractor that got stuck on the beach in 1979 – when the tide is low enough it becomes visible! Go for a walk along the Schaapeiland Hiking Trail. The path is covered in crushed mussel shells and is well-maintained. Make sure to stop at the West Coast Padstal on your way in or out, for some coffee or fresh farm bread.
3. Sea Point (15 km)
Sea Point is a lovely suburb along the coast, with many things to do. A must is to take a walk along the Sea Point Promenade; or, if you are looking for an alternative way to move around, hire a bike or electric scooter to zip along the promenade! Be careful when the sea is rough for waves coming over onto the walkway. Visit one of the many restaurants and ice cream parlours in the area – our favourite is The Creamery – or have a picnic in Green Point Park. Buying second-hand is really easy in Sea Point, whether that’s clothes (visit Bargains Galore on Regent Road) or books (head to CAFDA Books also on Regent).
4. Jonkershoek Nature Reserve (54 km)
Jonkershoek is a great nature reserve near Stellenbosch. The reserve has picnic spots and swimming is possible in rock pools and waterfalls, as Jonkershoek is home to four different rivers. The Jonkershoek Mountains are perfect for mountain biking and hiking. There are several shorter walks and 4 hiking trails. These range from 5 to 18 kilometres and have varying difficulty levels.
5. Kalk Bay (32 km)
Kalk Bay is a must! Head to the harbour for fish and chips, while meeting the locals: the seals. Take a dip in the Dalebrook Tidal Pool, or if you are looking for a cultural trip, see what shows are playing at the Kalk Bay Theatre. There are also great galleries around, like Kalk Bay Modern Gallery. With lots of lovely cafes and restaurants around, you won’t go hungry. And for the bookworms amongst us, head to Kalk Bay Books for one of the best bookshops with a view!
Island Club has many excellent day trips in the vicinity that are worth a visit. Feel free to ask our friendly staff for any recommendations and tips. We look forward to welcoming you and remember to share and tag us in your memories!
